CASCADE'19 presented to the media
The National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection held today a presentation of the CASCADE'19 exercise dedicated to the media at its headquarters in Carnaxide. The President of ANEPC, Carlos Mourato Nunes, the National Commander of Emergency and Civil Protection, Duarte da Costa and the 2nd National Commander Patricia Gaspar provided the main information on the planning of this exercise. They also invited journalists to accompany and media coverage of this great operation, which will mobilize more than 3000 participants, national and foreign operatives during the next week in Portugal.

Final Planning Conference and visit to Aveiro scenarios
The Final Planning Conference of the CASCADE'19 exercise was held on April 23, in Ílhavo, at the Auditorium of the Maritime Museum, with the participation of several of national entities and the EU participating teams. The meeting was followed by a visit to some of the scenarios of the district of Aveiro, in the Port of Aveiro and in Sever do Vouga. In this district, there will be complex emergencies as a result of adverse weather conditions such as heavy rains. It will accommodate a total of 13 different scenarios, 4 of which are level III, ie comprising local, national and international forces from Germany, Belgium and France, as well as a vessel of the European Maritime Safety Agency.
2nd Steering Committee Meeting and Main Planning Conference
The 2nd Steering Committee Meeting of the CASCADE’19 Exercise was held on February 25 in Palmela. The representatives of ECHO – European Commission and each of the 5 participating countries, Spain, France, Belgium, Germany and Croatia were present.
The next day the forum was extended with the holding of the Main Planning Conference that took place in the Municipal Library of Palmela. This work session, which gathered dozens of entities participating in the exercise, had as main goals the presentation of scenarios and timelines, consolidation of rules of engagement, modules and valences of the teams, as well as the program of evaluators.
After the Conference, followed visits to scenarios in the district of Évora, in this city and next to the Alqueva lake, and the following day to several places in the district of Setúbal, more specifically in Almada and Barreiro, where will carry be held CASCADE operations.
Cascade 2019 – Civil Protection European Exercise
CASCADE'19 is a European civil protection exercise to be held in Portugal between 28 May and 1 June 2019, organized by the Portuguese national Authority for Civil Protection, in collaboration with the Directorate-General of the Maritime Authority, and is financed by the European Commission under the EU Civil Protection Mechanism. In the exercise participate teams from Spain, France, Belgium, Germany and Croatia, mobilizing more than 600 operatives. It aims to test and train the response to multiple emergency situations that may occur in cascade (earthquake, floods, chemical accident, dam rupture and marine pollution) in national territory. It is a LIVEX (Live Exercise) with several scenarios, in the districts of Lisbon, Aveiro, Évora and Setúbal.
